I very much look forward to reading this. Does it include an orbital revamp? I'm inclined to believe so given the length of discussion on this topic. I assume from the comment you made to Absolute Idiom II that there'll be a district revamp as well? Standings system? Another thing I'm really hoping for and one that I'm inclined to believe will turn up given some of your comments. Has your mind been changed regarding LP stores? This is something that I don't really think is likely to turn up, but there's a lot of support for the idea. I guess I'll stop speculating rampantly now and just wait like everything else. I've made a lot of comments on this as well and look forward to seeing what FoxFour has in store for us. One thing I'm really hoping for is that the faction with the least districts gets more attack contracts. Right now the Minmatar have only 1% of the total districts, so they should be attacking a lot more than the Amarr, yet somehow from my personal accounts I tend to still be attacking just as frequently as defending on the Amarr side.
Also really hoping that only EVE strikes can be called in, no NPC strikes, and perhaps a system that makes it something the EVE players have to earn instead of Dust players. That would be great in my opinion, because then the team with orbital support is the only team that is going to get it, and if they enemy team wants to drop strikes they're going to have to get their EVE guys to run off the enemy team's fleet. |

Hmm, I just got a thought. What if instead of spawning the battles based on plexes and stuff, there were "trains" figuratively speaking going from district to district. Basically what I mean is you tie all the districts together into some massive loop. Raa X District 1 leads to Raa X District 2, leads to Raa X District 3, . . . , leads to Raa X District District 19, leads to Tzvi IV District 1, . . . on and on until you make a giant full loop with all the districts.
Then, you put a bunch of "trains" that follow this loop, starting at different places. The number of "trains" is decided by the amount of players queuing up for FW. It makes a stop at each district on its path, and the battle sets up with the attacker and defender decided by who holds the district currently. Then after the match, it goes to the next one. At the end of each battle, players are given the option to stick on that same "train" and move throughout New Eden.
Just a thought, and maybe not the best but maybe it could spark other ideas. I like this though because then say if you have a really good squad formed up you can sit through a session of FW and claim an entire system in FW as well as know that they next "train" probably won't be arriving there soon. Plus the number of attack and defense contracts would be much more fair than how it is currently. |

Yeah, the districts system is in fairly dire need of a revamp - by all rights when the Amarr was getting crushed they should have been doing much better than they were from the matches I was playing in, and similarly the Minmatar are probably going to suffer from the same issue once the FW event is over. Hell yes to the EVE only strikes - that would make my day, as someone lucky enough to have dedicated EVE support. It should be noted that at the moment it's not worth an EVE player's time to do an orbital, and that should probably be changed as well. An LP reward, for example, would do wonders I'm sure. That'd need to come with a match finder for the EVE players and a whole host of other things as feature creep rears its ugly head, but when discussing orbitals it's important to think about why someone would bother to do one. I'd really like it if orbitals became more of a mechanic to encourage fights as well as a match-changer in Dust. I assume that in terms of the match-changer part it'll be changed so they're less of a 'killstreak' reward. All aboard the speculation train! Well back when Amarr was in the hole, my group of players were still winning the vast majority of their battles so I'm not too sure about that.
Also what we've heard in the discussion for EVE strikes is basically once they connect to the district, if they can remain connected for a certain amount of time then they will earn an orbital strike for their team. These would not be stackable, so after each strike the timer would start again. You could however have multiple ships connected to the same district and have a huge artillery of strikes to choose from, as the timer would be for the individual ship and not the fleet. This would be great in my opinion. Maybe a bit game breaking, but this is war! If the enemy team is not going to send a fleet in to counter your fleet, then the enemies on the ground are going to pay big time. This would strongly encourage Dust players to start interacting with EVE players and vice-versa. |

I like it, though we're probably going to have to see how this set of changes pans out before thinking about more specific mechanics. Something I feel is really lacking is the ability (or rather, lack thereof) to attack specific districts in specific systems. If I have a supporting fleet with orbital capability in an assault on a stronghold system, I want to be fighting in that system, not in some backwater fifteen light-years away that some random LP farmer was farming in. Yup this is big as well. As someone who also gets frequent EVE support, it can be frustrating when your fleet has to ping-pong across New Eden to follow you around. Would be much nicer if you can choose your battle location, but even this "train" idea would keep the battles relatively close together, you know? |
